The climate her is very diverse – from the barren desert to Kau tropical rain forests. Approximately 50% of the park is wilderness, where is developed for hiking. The National Park has an great natural value, so in 1980 it was awarded the status of the International Biosphere Reserve and in 1987 was entered the UNESCO World Heritage List. Unique landscapes of park annually attract about 2.5 million tourists.
In 1823, Kilauea Volcano was first visited by the West. They were the American Asa Thurston and English William Ellis. Since then, more than one million tourists visited this park to see the movement incandescent lava flows.
Beginning in 1804, the valcano Kilaues has become a tourist attraction. Local businessmen George Lycurgus Pitman and Benjamin built a hotel for tourists. The pilgrimage of tourists grew, and in 1911 the governor of Hawaii Walter Freer unveiled a bill to create the “National Park Kilauea.”
However, the bill met with fierce resistance from the ranchers, who were located in the area. August 1, 1916 National Park Halekala became the first nationalpark in Hawaii and the 11th in a row in the United States. In September 1960, of its composition was selected National Park Hawaii Volcanoes.

Except the Volcanoes in National Park there are many caves, which are like lava tubes. They are formed as follows: when the upper part of lava solidified it is leaving a blank space. Camoy cave in Hawaii is the lava tube Turstona, which is open daily for visitors.
