Angry Birds has enjoyed phenomenal success in the gaming world. It is compatible across a variety of platforms including iOS, Android and Windows. The maker, Rovio has now come out with a new version entitled Star Wars. Will this further increase the game’s popularity or will it go south? After all, Star Wars purists were mortified that a legend was to be diluted in a birdie game. Let’s first see what this new game is all about.
You have two options here. Option A: Tatooine, Luke Skywalker’s home planet; or B: The Path of the Jedi on Dagobah, and it goes up to 80 levels. You can expect to be occupied with this game for at least four hours.

The Game
Option A: Tatooine, while not exactly similar to the movie version, is quite beautiful. With the dusty landscape and the scenery. As for option B, after the first level, you need to pay; it’s not free. The characters in angry Birds are the avian versions of the popular Star Wars protagonists and antagonists. The red bird has blond hair and is of course, the much loved Luke. Each character possesses certain unique powers (Luke’s lightsaber, Han’s laser pistol and Obi Wan’s force push) that have the capacity to alter the course of the game. They of course, have outfits that distinguish them as the Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker.
This game unfolds the story of the first 3 Star Wars movies. There are cut scenes of movie moments and the Angry Birds humor. The sound is absolutely fantastic, and if you close your eyes, you might think you’re watching the movie. It is accompanied by some lovely music. The Mighty Eagle power up has been upgraded to a Mighty Falcon power up; these are of course, available in limited numbers.
As usual you need to fling your birds via catapults at pigs that are stealing eggs and are protected by steel or wood structures; what changes here is what happens when you use The Force.

You can use the Obi Wan bird to push objects out of your way using The Force, and the Han Solo bird to fire blaster shots, all before the inevitable crash. You can always swipe the screen to use Luke’s saber to slice thru objects. There’s a great big bird that is Chewbacca and can just crash through obstacles in front of it. You can also call upon the Millennium Falcon, and he will take out the pigs. Most of them are kitted out as Stormtroopers, and of course, there’s Darth Vader too. There is a great attention to detail which makes the game that much more exciting. You also have bonus levels with icons R2 D2 and C-3PO in the spotlight.
It’s a fun game and the only ‘yikes!’ part is where you need to shell out serious cash to play some of the levels. Of course, if you’re a Star Wars junkie or Angry Birds fan, you wouldn’t mind reaching into your pocket to play further.
